DEVON Road's railings are still waiting to be replaced, two years after they were removed.

Malcolm Mackley, who lives on Devon Road, explained: 'In the distant past, which was at least two years ago, the poor state of a section of hand railings on Devon Road, Salcombe were temporarily repaired with red road works barriers. These barriers have remained there ever since.'

Salcombe Town Clerk Gill Claydon said: 'We approached Devon County Council again last year and with less money in the budget they were unable to do anything. The matter has been raised again this year and DCC Cllr Rufus Gilbert was made aware of the matter but he acknowledges the funding problem. The highway engineer says he has looked before and will look again to see if there are any funding pots that could assist within the new budgets but they are stretched.

'Salcombe Town Council would like to see them replaced as it is such a beautiful viewpoint.'

Mr Mackley said: 'It appears that the strategy for DCC is to carry out sticking plaster repairs to our infrastructure and hope for the best? What a pity. Devon is a beautiful county and deserves better in relation to priorities that councillors put on keeping the county in a state that it deserves for residents and visitors alike.'
