IVYBRIDGE’S sustainability group PL:21 is inviting local people to a public presentation on the renewable energy industry.
Taking place on Friday, November 20 from 7pm in Chapel Place Community Hall, the talk will be given by local renewable energy expert Peter Crone, who has worked in the sector for nearly 30 years.
Peter will look at how renewable energy has developed over that period, and its potential to meet our energy needs. There will be a question and answer session, and an open discussion on what people think Ivybridge could and should be doing as a town.
The presentation will follow a brief annual general meeting, to present the recent activities of PL:21 Transition Initiative and to elect a new committee. The group is keen for new people to get involved and develop ideas to make Ivybridge a more vibrant and sustainable place to live and work.
Current secretary Katie Reville said: ‘PL:21 is a group of local residents who care about the environment and the local community, and who try to encourage and enable local people to live more sustainably. Over the last year we have tried to develop a community garden project, have organised some bike rides, commented on the draft neighbourhood plan and have been trying to find a renewable energy project that will provide benefits to the local community.
‘The talk on November 20 will hopefully raise awareness of the potential for renewable energy to meet our energy needs, and will start important conversations between people to make a project happen.’
Refreshments will be available at the free event, and anyone is welcome. To find out more about PL:21 Transition Initiative, find them on Facebook and at www.pl21.weebly.com.
