KINGSBRIDGE in Bloom is aiming for another golden year as it competes to be the Champion of Champions.
Having achieved gold again last year – and the South West Tourism Cup for the best small town in the South West region – as well as some of the highest awards for the neighbourhood entries throughout the town, Kingsbridge has been invited by the RHS Britain in Bloom SW region to enter the 2014 competition for the Champion of Champions.
Chairman of Kingsbridge in Bloom Graham Price said: 'This is a huge honour for the town and really puts Kingsbridge in the premier league of the competition.
'But it will require lots of hard work and dedication by everyone to make Kingsbridge look stunning again for everyone to enjoy.
'Fortunately, we have a great team and have already formulated ideas for our displays throughout the town which will be ready for the judging that will take place around the middle of July.
'New displays at the bottom of Fore Street, the town square area and along the embankment will be introduced, together with more areas of meadow seeding to add to the existing areas that we also continue to maintain.
'This year is the centenary of the First World War and 50th year of the RHS SW in Bloom, so we will also be recognising these events in our displays.
'It is always a challenge in these difficult financial times to keep our momentum going.
'But, through our own fundraising activities and the support of our fantastic business community, Kings-bridge Town Council and the other authorities, we are confident of another successful year.
'If anyone would like to help us continue with our campaign to promote pride in our town, please contact us on 01548 854488.
'Your contribution, however large or small, is always very much appreciated.
'The team have already been out over the autumn and winter planting hundreds of spring flowering bulbs.
'These should come into bloom in spring and give a stunning display to lift the spirits after the dreary winter months.'
