BUNTING is being offered to public places to help create a ‘What’s On Your Heart’ snapshot of Kingsbridge.Susanne and Judy from St Edmunds Church, Kingsbridge, are asking people for a £1 donation for a triangle on the bunting and then allowing them to write a message on it.This can be anything from a message to a friend, words of encouragement or a favourite quote or poem, which will then be collected and used to decorate the church for a Community Party at the end of October.

Susanne said: ‘The idea is simple, we shall be distributing strings of bunting to as many clubs, schools, churches, pubs, public places etc that we can reach and inviting people to buy, for £1, one of the triangles on the bunting and “flag it up” by writing on their triangle their hopes, dreams, wishes and desires for 2016.

‘It could be a quote, a message of support, a poem or song, or anything they would like to share with the community, its a blank canvas!

‘Any money raised from the sale of the flag-space will be shared equally across three charities: Kingsbridge In Bloom, Tearfund’s Toilet Twinning Programme and St Edmund’s Church lighting fund.

‘At the end of October, the bunting strips will be collected in and displayed in St Edmund’s Church where collectively they will make up a coal commentary of what is on the hearts and minds of the community of Kingsbridge and its visitors in the summer of 2016.

‘We will complete the event with a community party in the church on Friday, October 28, any 6pm to celebrate the sharing and displaying of everyone’s words.’

Toilet Twinning encourages people to twin their toilets or toilet blocks with toilets in poor communities around the world. 2.5 billion people in the world don’t have a loo and this leads to dirty water, poor sanitation, dropping out of school to collect water, and a high cost due to healthcare and a lack of productivity.

Women and girls are particularly vulnerable to snake bites or attacks when they have to walk to the edge of their community to go to the toilet in the open and late at night. To find out more about Toilet Twinning, visit the charities website: www.toilettwinning.org
