We all know that money is scarce and economies have to be made but on a recent visit to the South Hams this was brought home to me.

The bad weather has caused a great many potholes everywhere but we have never seen such enthusiastic patching as can be seen on the lane leading to the church at Bigbury.

However, the main road is breaking up in many places but obviously this is not important enough to warrant the use of what tarmac is available.
