As a festive gesture, because making the town festive is ­evidently its purpose, would it be too much to hope that a ­contribution from the ­enormous sum of money – raised so magnificently at the recent Snow Ball in aid of Christmas lights for Dart­mouth – could be given to one of the town’s charities to ­support local young families and the elderly, for whom it is a daily struggle to keep ­themselves housed, warm, fed and cared for – and not just at Christmas?
