Hay fever sufferers warned to be aware.
The pollen count will be very high this week in the south west, according to the Met Office.
Father’s Day on Sunday June 18 is set to have extremely high levels of pollen, which may disrupt outdoor celebrations for hay fever sufferers.
Grass pollen is typically present from mid-May until July, as Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge explained in a statement.
Grahame said: “As the season progresses more grasses come out and produce pollen.
“It is not unheard of, but it is the highest category and sufferers need to take account of that."
Grass pollen is the highest category of pollen, after tree and weed pollen.
While very high pollen levels are expected on an annual basis, sometimes they can occur monthly as well during the peak of summer, which is the case for the south west this week.
Studies show that one in five people suffer from hay fever. You can reduce the symptoms of hay fever by taking antihistamine, eating certain foods like onion, garlic and ginger, and keeping clean. Washing your hair and clothes after spending time outdoors can remove any pollen that may be attached.
