STRONGER In campaigners were in out in force during the Modbury Fair on Saturday as part of a ‘broader effort’ across the South Hams.
Volunteers from Modbury and its surrounding villages talked to families divided by generation on the question of EU membership, finding that young people were often in favour of staying in despite their parents’ misgivings.
They also met a teacher visiting from Germany, sending him home with leaflets to help him teach his class about how the referendum campaign is progressing.
Lead organiser Olivia Wilson said: ‘I found that people were generally supportive and were often keen to wear an ’I’m in’ sticker. I came away feeling that there is a lot of goodwill towards Europe and the ’Stronger In’ campaign.’
Meanwhile seven volunteers turned out to meet the Bank Holiday Monday public in Salcombe last week. They included seasoned campaigner John Roadknight, who has now taken to the streets ten times to persuade voters to keep Britain in the EU on June 23.
