The Amendment tabled by South Hams MP Sarah Wollaston, was last night rejected by Westminster MPs. The cross-party request for a second referendum was defeated by 334 votes to 85.
Neither Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of HM Opposition or the leadership of the The Peoples Vote Campaign supported the amendment.
Dr Wollaston in a Tweet soon after the defeat said: “Hundreds of Labour MPs were heavily whipped to sit on their hands tonight. So much for Corbyn supporting a Peoples Vote, he very clearly does not”.
