FOLLOWING the resignation of Cllr Lindsay Ward from South Hams Council, a by-election will be held for the Charterlands ward.

The Charterlands ward covers Modbury, Kingston, Ringmore and Bigbury, and the election will take place on Thursday, February 23.

Four nominees are standing in the election. Jonathan James Bell of Higher Warren Road, Kingsbridge, is standing for the Conservative Party, Janet Elsie Chapman of Church Way, Yealmpton, is standing for the Green Party, Elizabeth Dawn Huntley of Warren Road, Bigbury-on-Sea, is standing for the Liberal Democrats and David James Trigger of California Cross, Modbury, is standing for the Labour Party.

When Lindsay resigned, leader of SHDC Councillor John Tucker said: ‘I can confirm that Cllr Lindsay Ward has, with immediate effect, resigned from her post as a District Councillor for South Hams District Council.

‘Cllr Ward has been a dedicated Councillor since May 2011 and Deputy to me since May 2015. I would personally like to thank her for her hard work and service to both her local ward and the District Council during that time.’ ?It is unknown why she resigned.
