Plymouth MP gives talk on his constituency and mental health, days after apprehending an alleged racist in London.

Johnny Mercer, MP for Plymouth, spoke about his time in the army whilst attending a lunch on the 8th June in Thurlestone as a guest of Thurlestone and South Milton Conservatives.

Mercer spoke about his service in Afghanistan and spoke passionately about his concerns for mental health issues presented by many of our returning service men and women.

Mercer talked about his later motivation of becoming an MP in order to make a difference to wider society once he had left the army. He spoke about the less privileged areas of his own constituency and his aims to try and create more opportunities for all.

The lunch occurred at The Old Vicarage and was hosted by Mr and Mrs Rigby.

Marian Rigby, chairman for TSMC said:

“It is so good of Johnny to find the time to come and visit us, great to hear him speak. You can rely on Johnny to tell it how it is.”

This comes days after an altercation with an alleged thief in London. His army experience led the MP to pin the man to the ground outside an off-license in London whilst police arrived.
