Gary Edgecombe, of Camperdown Road, Salcombe, writes: Oh Lord, here we go again. Another property developer pretending to be working for the benefit of Salcombe. It's a disgrace that this appeal was entertained in the first place: Island Street was – and is – the employment hub of the town. If Freemantle Developments asserts that commercial development isn't viable, it is mistaken. Mr Clacy is a popular, hard-working tradesman who for no fault of his own finds himself working in a trailer in the car park. Hardly an ideal business model. If you consult the relevant people about local planning, you will be subjected to 15 minutes of psychobabble from people who think waffle will keep the likes of me quiet. These are the people we elected, who green-light idiotic schemes put forward upcountry, leaving locals to live with the consequences. I'd like to think sanity will prevail, but I won't hold my breath. Cove's boatyard springs to mind, demolished in favour of another rash of holiday homes. Make no mistake, Salcombe is being destroyed, and for the most part we are letting these clowns do it.
