A TEAM of friends from Salcombe and Thurlestone have joined together to complete the Three Peaks Challenge after a friend was diagnosed with myoid leukaemia. The team, Jacqui Wallace, Helen McPhee, Christine Milton, Frances Cannon, Vicky and Paul Carpenter, are raising money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research by attempting to climb the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in three days. Sophie Kendall from Thurlestone went to give a routine blood donation in Kingsbridge last month. Not having any symptoms apart from feeling tired, she was surprised to be recalled for further tests, which revealed a few days later that she had acute myoid leukaemia. It has been an enormous shock for her family and friends but Sophie is now undergoing treatment and currently having her second batch of chemotherapy. Organised and trained by Jason McKinlay, adventurer, motivational speaker and trainer at jasonmckinlay.co.uk, the team will leave Kingsbridge on Sunday, June 29 and are all set for their challenge. The team have all been training hard for the event with lots of hill walking along Bolt Head! Jacqui Wallace said: 'At first this was a personal goal for all of us, however after this recent news we are even more determined to complete the challenge and raise funds for this very worthwhile cause.'
