We at the Society for the Protection of Parking Enforcement Officers would like to enlist the help of the Gazette readers.

It would seem that during the months of July and August the parking inspectors disappear from Salcombe completely.

We would like to know where they go, and what they do during this period. Is it their breeding season, or are they just scared off by the piles of rotting garbage and overflowing sewers?

The species were introduced a few years ago, and can be seen throughout the South Hams.

They are easy to spot with their black and white plumage. You may also see their black and yellow droppings on your car windscreen.

You can report any sightings to the society.
