A volunteer at Kingsbridge’s Oxfam shop found £225 in a donation and managed to track down the thankful owner.
Tracey Rimmer has been volunteering in the Kingsbridge Oxfam shop for almost a year, and this week she found out that there was more to sorting donated clothes than steaming and hanging.
While checking pockets she found a roll of bank notes, £225 was rolled tightly and concealed in a trouser pocket.
Pip Harris, shop manager, said: “One of the great aspects of donors signing up to the Oxfam Tag your Bag gift aid scheme is the ability for Oxfam to trace them in an incident like this. It was lovely to be able to phone the donor and give her such great news.
“She had been clearing out after recently losing an Uncle and was amazed that we had tracked her down were able to return the money to her. She was delighted with our find and kindly made a donation which enabled us to provide water for people in dire need.”
