A high street garden has recently seen a refurbishment of an overgrown area just in time for the warmer months, and welcomes the public to come and enjoy the scenery.
The Kingsbridge Community Garden, at 112 Fore Street, has been redesigned to make a family friendly picnic area complete with a sturdy new bench and a wrap-around green picket fence decorated with flowers and bees.
The original apple tree corners have been retained and replanted, and perennial geraniums, hostas and foxgloves have been added.
The refurbishment and additional seating area was put in with the hopes that young families will be encouraged to take the time to explore and enjoy the plants, pond and wildlife that Kingsbridge Community Garden have to offer.
The garden is open to the public every day, and provides “a peaceful haven for both visitors and Kingsbridge residents.”
The work has been carried out by the Friday volunteers at the garden, in readiness for the many visitors expected during the Kingsbridge Open Gardens which will take place on June 16 and 17, when more than 20 gardens in the town will be open to the public.
Proceeds from the event will be shared between the St Luke’s Hospice and the community garden.
Programmes for the event will be on sale from mid-May.
