Debbie Gillard, of Gills Autos, Jawbones, Dartmouth, writes: We are one of a number of very small businesses outside Dartmouth that does not benefit from tourism. We were told we had to pay the bid levy, which none of the businesses at Jawbones voted for, as no one realised they needed to because we are all situated outside the map area. On first phoning Phil Scoble – the previous bid manager – we were informed that we did not have to pay the levy because of the map area. Now, after receiving a court summons for Friday, February 27, we were told by the new bid manager that it had made a mistake with the map that we are now getting punished for. We have now been told that if we do not pay we will be charged an extra £80 in court fees and that it will affect our credit rating, which we think is blackmail. It is okay for the bid committee to make mistakes, such as saying that the original levy started at £100 – it has now has risen to £150, which will affect small businesses that work very long hours for little money. The only mistake we have all made is not realising we all had to vote 'no'.
