SHIRLEE MATTHEWS, of Loddiswell, writes:

It is coming to a crisis in our society when we read last week that South Hams Council was thinking of closing the public toilets in order to save money.

What in the world is happening when we have no money, not even to spend a penny, yet no one seems stir themselves about the £78bn-plus the Government will spend on Trident.

This may be an unpalatable truth to many readers but ponder on this when you are caught short with your legs crossed.

The money could be spent on construction instead of destruction – not just for us but for the children the world over, some of whom have no loos at all.
