Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has been accused of allegedly shoving Liberal Democrat MP Caroline Voaden during the procession of MPs to the King’s Speech, with the Reform UK leader denying wrongdoing.
Footage from the Commons Chamber appears to show Mr Farage and Ms Voaden walking down from the benches together.
Ms Voaden said she reported the incident to the Serjeant at Arms and that Mr Farage had been asked to apologise, but had not done so.
Speaking to the Telegraph, a Reform UK spokesperson denied the allegations, saying: “It was the Lib Dem MPs being aggressive towards Nigel.”
In a statement, Ms Voaden said Mr Farage had missed his opportunity to process alongside other party leaders to the House of Lords and had attempted to push past her rather than wait his turn.
She said: “The truth is that on the day of the King's Speech, Farage missed his chance to process with the other party leaders to the Lords, and rather than queue with the rest of us, he shoved me out of the way to barge past.
“It's no surprise that Reform's leader considers himself too important to wait like everyone else, or to politely ask someone to step out of the way.
“Such behaviour is unacceptable in any workplace, and it has no place in the House of Commons. Shoving a colleague out of the way on a staircase just shows the complete disdain he has for parliament and for other MPs.”
Ms Voaden, who said she had known Mr Farage since their time in the European Parliament, also accused him of prioritising publicity over his parliamentary duties.
She said the incident had happened five months ago and accused Mr Farage of raising it now as an excuse for his absence from the Budget speech.
The dispute was also referenced by LBC presenter James O’Brien, who questioned Mr Farage’s account of events.
“Further proof, were proof needed, that when Nigel Farage tells you something, it's best to check the facts,” he said.
Mr O’Brien went on to joke about the prospect of a confrontation with Liberal Democrat MPs.
“Oh God, what really? Lock the door, lock the door quickly,” he said.
“Sorry, Eleanor just said there were some Liberal Democrat MPs in the building and I was really worried that there might be a physical altercation.”
Imitating Mr Farage, James O'Brien said: “I'll face up to most people, but Liberal Democrat MPs, especially the ladies, they're really, really scary.”
Mr Farage also referred to the alleged “physical altercation” when explaining why he had not challenged the removal of his prayer card ahead of the Budget.
He said it was “better to avoid conflict”.
A Commons spokesperson said the card had been removed because it did not have the required date stamp, which is used to reserve a place in the Chamber.
