bookshop campaigners are on the move.

Volunteers fighting to replace Dartmouth's 'Winnie the Pooh Harbour Bookshop have spent the last week shifting shelving.

The Dartmouth Community Bookshop team have managed to buy the shelving from the Harbour Bookshop thanks to generous loans from supporters.

They have spent around a week carting the equipment from the now closed bookshop in Fairfax Place to premises in Higher Street – around 50 yards away.

They plan to keep them stored there until the major campaign to open a community bookshop in the town gets underway.

Chairman Anthony Fyson said: 'Our first job is to move the shelves we have acquired from the Harbour Bookshop. Now there will be a period of fundraising in order to set up and stock the shop.'

Meanwhile the group has launched a poster campaign appealing for help and support. Posters have gone up saying: 'Do you love books? Do you still want to be able to browse and buy books in Dartmouth, and to continue to value the connections with Christopher Robin?

'We are raising money to run a community, not-for-profit bookshop with temporary premises for six months at 12 Higher Street, opposite the Cherub. So far we have obtained the fittings from the now closed Harbour Bookshop.

'We urgently need funds to set up the new bookshop and the community project.

'Want to help? We need people who can offer fundraising and business planning skills to join our committee. You can also join our list of volunteers and friends. You can donate to the Bookshop Group now by writing a cheque payable to the Dartmouth and Kingswear Society. Please put 'bookshop group' on the back and send your donations and details to the Dartmouth and Kingswear Society, co/The Flavel, Dartmouth TQ6 9ND.'
