A popular regatta river race has resulted in help for a sick boy.
Each Regatta for the last couple of years, rowers on the Dart have paid to enter a race, where the winning boat takes all. The crew of the winning boat can spend the money on any charity they choose.
This year 28 rowers filled seven Yealm crabbers, commonly and mistakenly called whalers.
The rowers of both sexes were distributed evenly through the boats, although both men’s and women’s places in individual boats, were drawn out of a hat.
Each boat tended to have a mix of experience.
The race is run over 1,000 metres from the Higher Ferry to the Lower Ferry. The crew of this year’s winning boat, chose to use of their winnings to help Noah Osborne, 6 years old, who has has a range of medical problems. His father Jamie, a rower himself, was presented with a cheque for £200 by Dave Sharam, Chairman of the Sub-Committee for Local Rowing at Dartmouth Rowing Club, who was in the second boat to finish.
