Ann Packford, of Devon Road, Salcombe, writes: I was most interested to read your article on Friday, October 10, concerning the fuchsia gall mite. Here in Devon Road I discovered the identical problem on our hardy fuchsias during the summer of 2012 and I too sought the view of the Royal Horticultural Society. Following their advice I have cut down the top growth to ground level at the end of each flowering season. For the past two summers the fuchsias have been clear of disease and have flowered healthily. On learning that the disease is still prevalent, it might be prudent for me to get my shears out without delay.
