Dr Barbara Anderson, of Inner Hope Cove, writes:
Karen Perrow's excellent and extensive coverage of the Sun Bay development, January 20, may not quite capture the level of local and national opposition.
The headline 'Beauty Spot to get a large hotel complex' does capture the essence of many of the arguments; namely that Inner Hope will no longer be a peaceful 'beauty spot' in an Area of (supposedly) Outstanding Natural Beauty.
On a personal level my concerns are rather more immediate. My house lies directly above the proposed 11m-deep excavations – about 3m from my boundary – that threaten to undermine my house and garden.
These excavations will also similarly affect three other properties on the same boundary.
In the planning proposal this concern, along with most other infrastructure issues, was dismissed or inadequately addressed by the committee.
Such are the concerns of the local residents, as illustrated by the resignation of four parish councillors, that a group of us have felt obliged to formally advise South Hams Council that it is our intention to challenge the decision.
We are keenly awaiting the council's response and guidance as to how we might proceed.
