A M PLEASS, of Malborough, writes:
Regarding Rowena House's recent letter on the voting of our MP, Dr Sarah Wollaston, in the referendum vote, it is the duty of every member to vote as they thinks fit and which represents what views they have gathered from meeting the public.
Dr Wollaston made it quite clear at the open primary that she was standing as a Eurosceptic. To stand up to the whips office as a newly elected member must have taken a great deal of courage and she is to be congratulated on this action.
I fear Ms House does not realise that in 2009 European elections, UKIP gained 341,843 votes, only 8.19 per cent behind the Conservatives, who had 468,742 votes in the South West.
If the whips had allowed a free vote, I believe that we should have seen a very much bigger vote for the motion.
