Robin Griffin, of Weymouth Park, Hope Cove, writes:

I write this time as a dutiful son-in-law. The event that provoked this letter came on the day of Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas.

We moved my wife Rhona’s mum to Windsor Court this year. She was very reluctant to leave Newton Abbot, which she thought of as a good place to live.

She so enjoyed the Christmas efforts of Sam of the tourist information centre and her team. We began to talk about Kingsbridge in Bloom, Fair Week, the Food and Music Festival, the Remembrance parade with its superb turnout by our youth organisations, the railway project and our lovely parks, museum and Christmas lights, as well as the overall upkeep of the town.

Apart from the lovely people in Windsor Court, Mum talks about the smiling people she meets on her forays around town and how polite shop staff are. At the age of 86 Mum has really found a home.

She doesn’t know all our clubs, societies and groups that make our town the great place it is like I do, so my own bit is to thank all of you who give their time to lead and train our young people and support adults who need it, or who make an effort to be friendly day by day.

Well done and thank you. Have a happy Christmas – you deserve it.
