Stephanie Stone, communications officer, Revitalise, writes:
This week we mark World Alzheimer’s Day. Did you know that around 225,000 people will develop dementia in the UK this year alone? That’s one person every three minutes.
So I would like to take a moment to explain about how Revitalise provides support, not only to those living with the condition, but to those caring for them too.
Revitalise is an incredible charity that provides respite holidays for disabled people and carers, including people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, at our three UK centres. We understand that coping with the effects of dementia can at times be challenging and how having the reassurance that support is out there really can make all the difference.
Our guests really are at the heart of all we do. That’s why we have created our specialist Alzheimer’s Weeks, devoted specifically to couples and families living with the condition. Every aspect of these unique weeks is designed with the needs of our guests in mind, enabling both carer and cared for to relax, take time away from the stresses of everyday life and share special moments once more.
With an ageing population that is continuing to grow, and the risk of developing age-related disabilities, including Alzheimer’s and dementia, increasing every year, it is vitally important that we do all we can to support those affected.
