THIS year’s summer production of the Malborough Amateur Dramatic Group’s junior section - MAD Kids - will be Calamity Jane.
They are returning to one of the classic American musicals for this year’s show, made famous by Doris Day in the 1953 film version. It’s a lively story of the Wild West with cowboys, guns, can-can dancers and some romance, of course.
Rehearsals are now well under way and the cast of 46 under 18s are getting to grips with lots of very lively musical numbers, including The Deadwood Stage and Windy City.
There are many cast members returning for another production with this group, including Joe Tapper and Jacob Seldon in the two main male roles, Wild Bill Hickok and Lt Gilmartin.
Jill Clarke, MAD, said: ‘These two have been part of this company for some time, Joe began with MAD in 2005 as an Oompa Loompa in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Jacob appeared in his first MAD show in 2014 in Grease.
‘Unfortunately, they are now both 18 and have recently left school so this will be their last show with this group, they will be missed.’
Calamity Jane is being directed by Claire Tapper, Joe’s sister and this will be her 11th show directing for the MAD Kids. Live music will be provided by Rich Carter and his band and the choreographer is Sarah Montague, her first time with MAD Kids.
This show will be on in Malborough Village Hall from August 11-13, with a Saturday matinee. Tickets are now on sale in the Kingsbridge Information Centre and Malborough Post Office.
