VISITORS at this year's Ivybridge Funday will be asked to think about the future of the South Hams while enjoying all of the entertainment on offer. South Hams Council will be using the event on Saturday, July 5 to ask people how they want their local community to be shaped in the next 20 years. Local residents are being asked to think about some important topics such as where new homes should be built, will there be enough housing for the next generation, what jobs will we do in the future and where will our energy come from? This is part of ongoing consultation and engagement with local communities about the development of 'Our Plan' – a strategic plan for community needs and council services in the South Hams between now and 2031. Michael Hicks, the council's deputy leader and executive member with responsibility for planning, economy and community, said: 'Ivybridge Funday is one of the biggest events in the town's calendar so what better occasion to meet local residents and get them involved with Our Plan. 'These are really big issues about the future of our district so I hope people will stop off at the Our Plan stall to find out more and tell us what they think.' A small team of staff and councillors will be on hand to answer questions and guide people through the ongoing consultation process. The event takes place at Ivybridge Rugby Club and with a South Hams Council stall open from 12noon to 5pm.
