A local reality TV star has shaved his head for Macmillan cancer support.

Josiah Carter, of “Below Deck” fame, decided to shave off his signature hair after his mother, Kairen, was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

Kairen underwent a mastectomy, but the cancer spread to her lymph nodes and she underwent chemotherapy. She is supported by The Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Centre, for whom Josiah is fundraising.

Josiah said: “They’re an amazing charity. They help everyone affected by cancer, whether you’re going through treatment or know someone who is.”

He hoped to raise a total of £8000 which he did not believe he would be able to reach. The funds would go towards providing a nutritionist and personal trainer either before a patient begins treatment or during their chemotherapy.

Since shaving his head on Saturday, March 30, Josiah’s hair has begun to grow back and he is beginning to get used to his new image.

He said: “I wanted to do something to help raise money for the charity that’s helped me mum so much.

“My mum and I were talking about what to do when she started to lose her hair. Then I realised that I would shave all of mine off when she finished chemo so we can grow our hair back together.”

In total, Josiah has raised a staggering £6,205 for the charity. To donate to the cause, visit his Justgiving page at: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/josiahcarter.
