A South Hams woman looking to achieve her dreams is doing a calendar shoot not only to raise money for prostate cancer, but in the hopes of ‘inspiring lots of people to chase their dreams’.

Lorna Greenfield is hoping to make it to the Grand Final for the UK Calendar Girls competition.

Lorna had always wanted to model, but had no confidence growing up because she was unpopular and her peers considered her ‘unusual’. Her parents were also unsupportive, saying that it wasn’t the best career to follow.

Her chance came when, in 2014, award-winning local photographer Martyn Norsworthy was looking for someone who still fit into her wedding dress. Lorna had reached out to him saying that she could, however Lorna’s dress was red, and Martyn had been looking for a traditional, white one. He’d promised to contact her afterward, and after their photoshoot, the photo went on to win an award.

Lorna said: “Martyn helped me realise a dormant dream, and for that I am extremely grateful to him.”

In 2016, her confidence was boosted even more, when she had a Boudoir shoot, followed by a second one in 2017. After this, Lorna decided to make a part-time career out of modelling, and has been able to be versatile in the style of shoots she’s done, giving her plenty of opportunities.

The UK Calendar Girls scouted her in January 2017, and she has now moved onto the text-vote round.

Lorna said: “I desperately hope to get a chance to be in the Grand Final and would be so grateful if as many people as possible could vote for me - it would help me get closer to my dream. I also hope to inspire lots of other people to chase their dreams and overcome any confidence issues they may have. Since starting my journey, I realise that many things are within reach.”

Contestants raise money for the chosen charity through events throughout the competition, with this year’s being the Chestnut Appeal for prostate cancer. Last weekend Lorna attended a fundraiser ran by two of her fellow applicants, and together they raised more than £340 for the Chestnut Appeal.

To vote for Lorna, text UKCG 121 to 82727. Votes are limitless and voting ends at 23.59 on July 14.

The UK Calendar Girls was originally set up to help males and females looking to break into modelling without having to create a profile or wait to be noticed by a modelling agency. The competition in the past has helped many females who maybe suffering from anxiety, low confidence, low self-esteem or need something to focus on, and through the process of UKCG, many individuals have been able to grow in confidence.
