Julia Hawkins, of South-town, Dartmouth, writes:
Thank you for publishing my letter, Chronicle, February 24, about the proposed lift shaft in Manor Gardens (planning application 0096/17/HHO), which was the subject of Karen Perrow’s article in last week’s edition.
A petition has been organised, which readers should sign if they don’t want to see a proliferation of lift shafts along the river bank in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and believe that the planned lift shaft will have a negative impact on the character or appearance of this beautiful Conservation Area.
It is also urgent that readers look at the design and access statement accompanying the application on the district council website to see how Manor Gardens looks now and what the effect would be if the building goes ahead.
They should then write or email South Hams District Council with their comments, because although the deadline is March 2, it is open to the council to consider comments up until the determination date on March 22.
