What a marvellous letter from Herbert Holzinger esq (September 7), who surgically debunked the myth of a sunlit upland Brexit by a judicious use of… err… absolutely no evidence or hard facts at all.
Could Holzinger be a pen name for our flip-flopping MP who also debunks Brexit myths without a shred of evidence to back up her debunking?
Those who voted leave were apparently “hoodwinked by snake oil salesmen and Pied Pipers” and clearly had not a jot of intelligence themselves.
Apparently, right from the beginning, it was clear that the ultimate goal was a political union and obviously the referendum about joining the Common Market in 1975 made that clear, because Herbert says so.
He also says China will never want to trade with us because we won’t be part of a larger bloc. So it will forego the opportunity to trade with the ninth-largest economy in the world because it has left the EU? Really? Perhaps it will replace its current UK trade for trade with, for example, the Gambia, one of the world’s poorest countries and not a member of any trade bloc, yet strangely enough a trade partner today with China.
He suggests the UK will not be trading with Australia, New Zealand and Japan because they are only interested in trading with the EU, not single countries. Because of course they only trade with the EU, not single countries, don’t they? They don’t? Oh!
Herbert also clearly makes the point for us about the punishment for the UK for daring to leave. As Groucho Marx may have said. Who on earth would want to be part of an alliance that treats anyone wanting to leave in such a way? Finally, when is a majority not a majority? Answer: when Herbert says so.
I think the fishermen of Brixham may thank Herbert/Sarah, because whatever happens post-Brexit, they will have a load of codswallop right on their doorstep and not even have to leave port to catch it.
