The team at the Westward Housing support project for mental health, has been busy securing the latest creation by Totnes sculptor, Malcolm Curley.

Ossie the Ostrich now rides his bike atop a tree on the main road into Totnes where thousands of drivers queued on that main junction by the station to admire him.

Clare Schofield who works at Redworth had seen a snail sculpture in next door's garden and asked about it. She made contact with local sculptor Malcolm who looked at the property on Google maps to see if his new work would be suitable there and was delighted with what he saw.

Malcolm usually provides his sculptures in return for charity donations but on this occasion the enterprising project team bartered some materials for use in future sculptures. Dene Reeves, support caretaker, donated materials, as well as collecting and installing the ostrich.

Clare says that some people take pictures of it as they go by. It makes her chuckle every time she sees it. The supported housing residents think it's really cool and has put Redworth on the map and a smile on people's faces.
