KINGSBRIDGE Town Council have warned that parking between the new bollards is illegal and will waste public money used to fix the pavements.

Photos were sent to us of a Land Rover Defender that has been parked between two of the new bollards along Fore Street.

As impressive as this piece of parallel parking is, Kingsbridge Town Council are urging people to remember that the pavements have just been repaired, and are for people.

The work, carried out by Devon County Council with public money from DCC and the town council, was required after people parking on the pavements damaged them to the point that they were a dangerous trip hazard.

The bollards were installed to prevent parking on the walkways, protect the newly repaired pavements and to make it safer for pedestrians.

People are being encouraged to use Fore Street for access only, with Cookworthy Road being the intended route around and through the town.

When delivery drivers have to drop goods to shops on Fore Street, and loading bays are full or are taken over by cars parking there illegally, the trucks are perfectly entitled to stop in the middle of the road to unload, which will hold up traffic.

Kingsbridge Town Council say on a new notice being handed out to wry parkers: ‘PAVEMENTS ARE FOR PEOPLE and obstructing them is illegal.

‘You can purchase a Residents Parking Permit from South Hams District Council for just £21 per annum which allows parking in all council managed car parks, seven days a week between 4pm until 10am the following morning - be quick before the proposed increase to £40!’

The message is clear from Kingsbridge Town Council: don’t park on the pavements, don’t park in loading bays and use the Cookworthy Road bypass as your route through Kingsbridge.
