KINGSBRIDGE Police officers were outside Tesco over the weekend, cycling for charity and raising more than £760.
Tesco was using their ‘charity week’ to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK, by attempting to cycle the length of the UK - 683 miles - and they asked Kingsbridge police officers for help.
Stepping up to the plate for an hour each were Sgt Dave Green, PC Dave Tungate, PCSO Paul O’Dwyer, PCSO Ash Hawkes, PCSO Warren Palmer, PC Duncan Prowse, PC Ryan Hayhurst, PCSO Dave Gibson, SC Dave Wasilewski and PC Jane Gerrard.
Tesco staff who also rode included: Cat Anstey, Pete Downing, Teaguey, Paul Beech, Michael Allen, George Cooper, Christian Login, Jack Daniel, Han Brace, Monika Kiwala and Lorraine Kent.
Sgt Dave Green said: ‘After the first 10 minutes it wasn’t too bad, because you go numb from the waist down. It was one of the most uncomfortable things I think I’ve ever done.’
PC Duncan Prowse cam top of the police officers, cycling 28.5miles in an hour. PCSO Dave Gibson cycled 30, but apparently he ‘cheated’ by cycling for longer than an hour.
Organiser Gerrie Messer said: ‘We asked the guys at the police station for help and they obliged. We raised £766.34 for British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK. Unfortunately, we didn’t make the final distance, missing out by just 145 miles, but the Police Team won the contest with 281.2 miles and Team Tesco completed 257.2 miles.’
Ignite Fitness Studio kindly provided the stationary bikes for the challenge.
