KINGSBRIDGE Fair Week has chosen its new president as Keith Wingate steps down from the post.
Adrian Masters, from Kingsbridge, has technically been in the post since October, but was officially handed the role by Keith this week.
Keith, who is stepping down after the maximum two years in the position, said he expected Adrian to make an ‘awesome president’ and that he wished him ‘every success’ and hoped he was ‘ready for it’.
‘It’s a year-round effort’, said Keith, ‘but I found it rewarding and worthwhile, I enjoyed it immensely. I am privileged to have been an advocate for Fair Week and will continue to be so.’
Adrian said he was ‘very excited’ about taking on the role, calling it a ‘great honour’. He said being nominated was ‘unexpected’ but that he was up for the challenge.
‘The committee are very in control of the preparations,’ said Adrian, ‘I’m happy to help, but they have all the bases covered. Most people only see the outside, the big events and the music, so it will be interesting to see behind the scenes.’
The one thing he is worried about is the tradition for the president to have a go on the ‘daftest ride’. ‘I’m not a fair ride person,’ said Adrian, ‘the low ones are OK, but not the high ones. I think I’ll try for some negotiation, failing that I may have to feign injury!’
Adrian concluded saying he hoped the town ‘embraces Fair Week as it always has and join with visitors for a great experience’, and that the weather is good for the week.’
Kingsbridge Fair Week will take place this year between July 16–23. For more information, visit the website: www.kingsbridgefairweek.co.uk. You can also follow Kingsbridge Fair Week on Facebook.
