KINGSBRIDGE Fair Week saw fun for all the family with amazing weather last week, with the event going from strength to strength.

Kingsbridge Fair Week president Adrian Masters called it ‘fantastic’. It was Adrian’s first Fair Week as president and he said he ‘couldn’t believe how fun it was, I thought it would be more onerous’.

He continued: ‘Everyone was so friendly, the competition was fierce but with a great spirit. My biggest surprise was the bingo, just so many people.’

Adrian, as Fair Week tradition dictates, was also made to have a ride on the big ride on the Quay. With four seats at each end of a long arm, the ride flings people around 20m into the air - giving you an amazing view of the estuary, and then back round.

Before Fair Week started, Adrian said this tradition was the one thing he was worried about, but afterwards he said it was ‘just as bad as I thought’.

He said thanks to all the ‘sponsors, volunteers and helpers’ and said the main thing that made Fair Week so successful was the ‘participation of town, visitors and locals, which was amazing.’

The main attractions were back again with the three-legged race being as popular as ever - 72 teams entered but not all made it back! First place went to Carole Vaughan and Andrea Lee and second place went to Amber and Sian. The best dressed was won by ‘The Grapes’ - Leah Jordan and Rachel Willis.

The 10K race was won by Andy Davies, followed by Dominic Day and Ewan Walsh. The first male veteran was D O’Brien, the first junior was Shaun McKernan, and Vicky Winzer was the fastest woman followed by Rebecca Baker and Freya Lawrence.

The Fun Run also attracted a large number of runners with the winner being William Stracher, followed by Max Ferguson, Xavier Bly, Jan Gallardo and Ella Robinson.

The Teddy Bear’s Picnic attracted hundreds of children with their teddies and their parents and the winners of the competition were Lydia Hughes - Biggest Teddy, Charlie Trembath - Smallest Teddy, Maddie Clark – Cutest Teddy – and Brenda Gidley - Oldest Teddy.

The Lantern Parade family challenge was won by the Stark family with the big blue parrot, followed by the Erin family with the parrot carry the Olympic rings and the Gray family with a parrot in flight.

The Euchre competition saw Tim Newman and Tony Straw finish as winners, with Jumbo and Stubby as runners up and the highest number of fours went to Tim Newman and Colin Rogers.

The Darts competition crowned Winner – Tony Jenkins Senior as the winner with Chris Tucker as runner up. The Crazy Quiz was won by the ‘Underage Drinkers’: Chris, Ashleigh, Kim and Edd Roberts, Ellen Seccombe, Mark and Emma Fox, Will Rossetti and Sandra Hanel.

From a police perspective, Sgt Dave Green of Kingsbridge Police said: ‘Kingsbridge Fair Week all went well, it passed peacefully and I ass my congratulations to the organising committee and we’re looking forward to next year.

‘This year we had really good support from the Special Constabulary especially the main nights of the Saturdays, the Friday and Wednesday. A number of the officers on foot patrol on those evenings were volunteers, giving up their time to keep people safe and we are very grateful.’
