A fundraiser celebrating the life of a woman who died from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year is set to happen again.

Katie Anderson of West Charleton, was 52 when she died after a long battle with cancer on July 27, 2017, and honouring her last wishes, her family and friends decided to hold a celebration of life fundraiser for all of the local charities which supported Katie during her battle.

Friends and family of Katie are planning on honouring her life again this year, and are holding a sponsored walk entitled ‘Katie’s Krawl’ on Saturday, June 30. The money raised this year will go toward the Triangle Centre for Plymouth Hospital.

The plan is to start at Creek’s End in Kingsbridge at 10am, where participants will catch a bus to Malborough. The five mile walk will then start in Malborough down and around Salcombe through to North Sands and then to the top of Onslow Road where a Tally Ho bus will take everyone back to the Creek’s End for the ‘main event’ - a night of raffles, refreshments and festivities.

Organisers want to give a big thank you to Tally Ho for their generous donations and offering to drive the ‘Krawlers’ around. Another thank you to the three sponsors, S.R. Perrins, Barton Solutions, and Sort Your Accounts, as well as all the local businesses in Kingsbridge and Salcombe who have given generous donations towards the raffle prizes.

Katie was originally diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma of the left breast in 2002, and after chemotherapy and surgery over the next three years, the cancer went in to remission. Unfortunately, the cancer returned to her bowel and liver in June 2014, bringing on more chemotherapy and further treatments.

Katie continued to work despite the challenges this brought on her body during treatment. By August 2016, the cancer became terminal, though it didn’t stop her from working full time as a store manager in Boots, Salcombe right until the end of her life.
