TWO friends from Ivybridge have helped set a new world record after jumping out of a plane for charity. In perfect conditions Chelsie Cleal and Hannah Baldwin completed the tandem skydive for Crohn's and Colitis UK. The pair finished the skydive for the charity on the eighth anniversary of Hannah being diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Skydive UK managed to complete 279 tandem skydives in 24 hours – beating to previous record of 251 set in Germany. Chelsie and Hannah have been friends from when they were both Brownies at the age of eight. Hannah said: 'What an experience – we managed to overcome our fears and enjoy the thrill and adrenaline rush. 'We decided to raise money for Crohn's and Colitis UK because I suffer from Crohn's and have been hugely affected by the condition. 'The charity has provided information and support to my family when they most needed it and also continue to raise funds for research into a cure. 'I jumped on the eighth anniversary of my diagnoses and couldn't think of a better way to mark it. 'We've raised an incredible £2,810 between us and there's still some to collect from businesses in Ivy-bridge that have been collecting on our behalf. 'We raised all this with very generous sponsorship from friends, family and complete strangers, a cake stall at Plymouth train station, a quiz night at The Imperial in Ivybridge with a raffle funded by local businesses and a concert in Worcester. 'Thanks go to The Watermark, Friary Mill Bakery, The Riverbank cafe, Friend's bike shop, Jazz Interiors, The Ivy Fish Company, The Ivy Beauty Rooms, Lime Square, South Brent Flowers, BarberElles, The Imperial pub and friends and family that all donated raffle prizes for the Pub Quiz. 'Also The Kingsmen from Kingsbridge for all their sponsorship.'
