Plymouth University students Jodie Warren and Alec Church have almost reached their target of raising £400 for Hannahs.
Jodie and Alec ran the Ocean City Half Marathon in Plymouth in aid of the charity, saying they “adore the work that Hannahs do”.
Jodie is the charity and volunteering secretary at Plymouth University, as well as studying Theatre and Performance. While Alec studies adult nursing and is the captain of the Plymouth Ultimate Frisbee team.
For over a year now Plymouth Ultimate Frisbee Club has had a very close relationship with Hannahs, which they chose as their charity of the year. They have been taking part in other fundraising sporting events throughout the year to raise money for Hannahs.
Jodie said: “We adore the work that Hannahs do to help the lives of young people with disabilities, especially as a local charity. I’ve said over and over this kind of charity is really close to my heart. I swore I’d never run, or exercise for that matter, but have been running for a little over a year and was determined to do the Half Marathon before I graduated from Plymouth.”
Hannahs’ head of fundraising, Hayley Dann, said: “We are extremely grateful to all the runners who took part in Plymouth’s Ocean City Half Marathon in aid of Hannahs. It is heart-warming to see such great support for our charity particularly this year as we celebrate our 250th anniversary.
“With the help of our fantastic runners and our local community, our charity is able to support more than 1,500 young people and their families every year – helping children and young adults with disabilities live a full and happy life. We look forward to seeing how our Plymouth University runners’ fundraising progresses over the summer, particularly their frisbee event at Hannahs, Seale-Hayne.
“We hope to see lots of people get involved and take part!”
