AFTER 12 years working on the Dart Harbour yacht taxi, Jan Scott has decided to hang up his sou’wester in exchange for dry land.

At a presentation to mark his long service, Jan thanked the Dart Harbour team and said how much he had enjoyed working with the team and the support they always give to yacht taxi drivers.

‘I have very much enjoyed the opportunity to work on the Dart and to meet so many interesting people who are involved in one way or another with the river,’ said Jan, ‘and, of course, the many visiting yachtsmen who use the Dart Harbour Yacht Taxi service when they visit the harbour.

‘It has been a very enjoyable twelve years.

‘Thank-you very much for this gathering and gift; a complete surprise and undeserved but much appreciated.’

As well as being a yacht taxi driver, Jan is a board member and former vice commodore of Dart Harbour and has greatly contributed to harbour life in and around Dartmouth, said Harbourmaster Capt Rob Giles.

‘I would like to thank Jan on behalf of staff, the board and public alike for his loyal and trustworthy service to Dart Harbour,’ said Capt Giles.

‘He has turned up for his shift in all weathers, day and night, summer and winter to provide outstanding yacht taxi cover.

‘It’s also been so pleasing to have a board member taking the opportunity presented by running the yacht taxi to welcome visitors and communicate with the public direct.’
