A team of dedicated colleagues from Sanctuary Care’s Ivydene Residential and Nursing Home base in Ivybridge has raised more than £1,020 for the NSPCC after completing a challenging 24.9-mile walk across Dartmoor.
The fundraiser, for Sanctuary’s charity of the year, took place around the Princetown area of Dartmoor and saw the team tackle rugged terrain, long distances and an overnight camp, all in support of the children's charity.
The walkers included Gary Hood, Home Manager, Louise Buayan, Deputy Manager and the care team: Chelsea Naylor, Cody Francis, Leanne Widdicombe, Chenee Ereneta and Jodie Wardhaugh, with Jane Newton and Helen Soper providing valuable logistical and support assistance throughout the event.
The challenge was organised and led by Gary, who drew on previous experience as an Army Expedition Leader to plan the route, logistics and overnight arrangements.
Gary Hood said: "For the staff at Ivydene, raising money for the NSPCC means standing up for children who need support, protection and a voice. Every donation helps the charity continue its essential work in safeguarding children, preventing abuse and providing hope to vulnerable young people and their families.
The team showed incredible determination throughout the challenge. There were plenty of miles, a few blisters, lots of laughter and real teamwork along the way. I'm immensely proud of everyone who took part and grateful to all those who donated and supported us."
While the team was taking on the challenge, colleagues at Ivydene worked hard to ensure residents continued to enjoy a full programme of activities and high-quality care throughout the weekend.
Gary added: "I'd also like to thank the team members who stayed behind at the home. Their support ensured everything ran smoothly, allowing residents to enjoy a fantastic weekend while we completed the walk."
