It is panto season and in keeping with that along comes Richard Rawlins with a bucket-load of satire to chuck over those responsible for the new information board in Dartmouth’s Royal Avenue Gardens. However, two points are worth making:
Unfortunately those involved did not have the gift of clairvoyance, and therefore they did not know – any more than the rest of us, even Mr Rawlins – that NatWest was going to announce the closure of the local branch.
At risk of contradicting myself, perhaps they did have the ability to foretell the future when it came to the police station. Although the police are in temporary accommodation at the moment, it is their declared intention to move back to their old site once it has been redeveloped. So the label is correct, just ahead of its time.
So only one foreseeable error, and that could easily be remedied by changing the name of the park to match the map.
Happy New Year!
