A South Hams couple are rowing the Caledonian Canal to raise funds for two local charities.
As a means of giving back to the community, Rob and Anna Johnstone, from Salcombe, are taking on the challenge of rowing the Caledonian Canal in Scotland.
They plan on starting the 140 mile journey in Ardgour, taking in four lochs including Loch Ness, and finishing in Inverness. Their hope is to complete the challenging row in just six days, starting on Thursday, September 20 and finishing on September 26.
They’ve chosen South Hams Area Wellbeing and Kingsbridge and Saltstone Caring for the charities to support, to enable Salcombe Estuary Rowing Club to give back to its local community. They originally set out to do the challenge to raise the profile of little boat rowing with a pair of paddles instead of a single in a gig.
SHAW is a non-profit organisation which aims to help enable and educate local individuals to be resilient in their own well-being; and KASC is a charity whose aim is to promote the wellbeing of older, isolated or vulnerable people living in Kingsbridge, Salcombe and the surrounding area.
