ALAN HEART, of Kingsbridge Park, Kingsbridge, writes:

It was sad to read the very good letter by Pauline Brookes regarding 'Yobbos ruining peace at Quay'. Unfortunately her case is not an isolated incident.

Many years ago I used to walk with my girlfriend along the quay at night, holding hands and watching the coloured light bulbs reflect on the water-magical memories for me.

One evening, I walked along the quay, a gang abused me and one, behind my back, threw a glass which just missed me and smashed near Harbour House. I expect they chose me because I have a visible disability.

I have lived in cities and have seen many horrible acts of criminality but I was never personally attacked until I moved to Kingsbridge.

A few months ago I saw the police confiscate a football and put it in their police car. A few minutes later they got out and gave it back to the louts-maybe they cautioned the football!

In the Gazette, the police talked about how they could not make charges due to the victims not giving permission for evidence. Now this is the crux. Why should anyone give evidence if all that happens is that the criminal is let off scot-free?

Ken Clarke, Justice Secretary, releases career criminals because in his words 'Prison does not work'. I have worked with offenders and I can assure you every act of kindness towards them is seen as a weakness to exploit, they are predators and they see the public as cattle.

The Left and Liberals have destroyed law and order in this country, the brain-dead dribbling Liberals sadly now infest the Conservative Party.

To change things for the better I recommend people start to vote for UKIP, which is made up of people whose political creed is called common sense.

Though if people do not wake up, I am hedging my bets and advising all the younger members of my family to work hard, save up and emigrate before this country goes down the proverbial plug hole.
