Kevin Pyne, of Lake Street, Dartmouth, writes: I couldn't help but feel that some of the comments with regard to the Harbour Authority were a little unfair in last week's letters pages in the Chronicle. Oh sure, the visiting ships are down, but I suspect that's mostly fashion. I happened to be in the interview suite for Radio Scilly in May when their harbour-master was giving the summer shipping visit details, and I thought: 'Wow, what a lot.' But they steam in, they anchor up and then haul their anchors in and go on their way, having visited four islands by boat in a matter of hours. Personally, I believe that our turn for ships will come again as the fashions change. Now, as for the office and staff, I think there is a noticeable increase in helpfulness and my visits have been very positive, constructive and not at all divisive. I might live to regret my words, but not at the moment, because I see what's going on as a marked improvement; and moreover, should you ask for help, you will get it. Now look to your mooring lines and then have a great Christmas.
