Steve Showler, of Hope Cove, writes:

It would appear to me that there have been a lot of objections to the redevelopement of Hope Cove's Sun Bay Hotel.

I would like to add another point of view.

Myself and my daughter, who lives in Malborough, attended the public meeting and the objections raised against the proposed plans were bordering on the absurd in my opinion.

For example:

l Would the increase in building lorries cause the road to fall into the sea?

l With the extra five bedrooms being added, this would add to the traffic problems encountered in the summer months, resulting in a possible loss of life.

l The increase in sewage would be a problem as supposedly the sewers cannot cope now.

Well hang on a minute. I'm no scientist but all of the above concerns seem to be disregarded one weekend of the year, during Hope Cove's famous family weekend, which even attracts celebrities, as informed by the Gazette. Then, all of the summer months, there is an infux of visitors filling their second homes.

But the most important point for me came from my daughter after the meeting. She said: 'The thing is dad that we [being her friends who were all bought up and live in the no doubt Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty] want somewhere smart and modern to take our families to when they are growing up.'

Now here's the thing. We, as adults and parents, have a responsibility to do what's best as a legacy to pass on to our children.

And I know that neither of my children or their respective partners will never become fishermen in Hope Cove but they just might decide to pursue a career in the tourist industry.

That's one of the many reasons why I am definitely in favour of the hotel's redevelopment plans.
