On March 2, Modbury was having problems with electric cutouts which finally ended up with a five-hour, full-on power cut, meaning that at least eight homes in Champernowne were without heating, hot water and any facilities to make hot drinks or food.
It is well known that these conditions arise in the bad weather and most people have gas nowadays, meaning that some normality can continue.
Not us though.
We have been left by a housing association with just electric. Although, the mains gas pipe runs directly between the eight bungalows.
I have made many requests to the housing association for gas central heating to be put into the bungalows for a couple of years now, as the storage radiators we have are too expensive to run.
I was informed last November that we were not a high priority, but gas central heating will be put in by 2021.
I don’t blame the power companies for the problems because I know that they are working full out to get the power back up.
But I do place the blame on the housing association because it did not do as requested, to safeguard the elderly and disabled tenants.
