A teenager is planning to jump to the height of Everest to fund an African expedition.

Ivybridge Community college Year 10 student Courtney Osborne, 14, pictured above superimposed over a photo of the world's highest mountain, will be bouncing on a trampoline for four hours and covering 8,839 vertical metres to fund a trip to Tanzania.

The expedition takes place this summer and will see her dig essential water holes and foundations for new school buildings. It is organised through Camps International and is set to cost her £3,884.

Courtney will be doing the Everest bounce while dressed as Tigger and hopes to raise enough money to embark on the 'life-changing experience'.

She said: 'I decided to do a sponsored bounce as it's a creative and original idea and I have been training a lot for it.

'I do not do trampolining as a club but I tend to go on my trampoline with my sister for fun.

'I decided to take part in the Camps International project because I believe that we should help others in need when given any opportunity to do so.

'The work I undertake will ensure that the communities will be able to provide children with the basics they need to grow up in a healthy environment and have the chance for a better future as this country is exceedingly below the poverty line.

'The expedition will give me a major confidence boost and make me more independent, thus helping me later in life.

'It will be an emotional rollercoaster and an eye-opener but this journey is one I am willing to take to benefit others.

'I will also gain 70 UCAS points which are very beneficial to get into university.'

The bounce is the first of several fundraising projects which Courtney hopes to undertake, with plans also in the pipeline for a baked bean bath and a Year 6 disco.
