MICHAEL HURLEY, of Woolston, Kingsbridge, writes:

The letter from Thiri Myat-Howard regarding Burma and the Gazette interview recently with Felicity Goodall may or may not be factual.

However, both Felicity and Thiri have extensive experience and knowledge of Burma and it would be wrong if an argument on semantics obscured the main point of the article to provide support and sponsorship to Felicity in her personal endeavour to help poor Burmese children to learn English.

A very small amount of money can ensure an improved education for Burmese children which even in a recession many of us can afford.

This will not only help the children involved to enjoy a better life but also may help a future generation of Burmese to look more favourably at the UK which at one period was the local colonial power.
